- An age gap relationship (characters involved are all older than twenty-five).
- Use of weapons to maim and bludgeon.
- Blood and gore.
- General violence.
- A serial rapist.
- Rape of a main character.
- Unplanned/unwanted pregnancy.
- Drug use.
- Alcohol consumption and alcoholism.
- A character recalling the moments leading up to being raped as a minor (the act is not on-page).
- Characters with a catalogue of mental health conditions, some of which are shown in a comical nature.
- Derogatory language toward sex workers.
- A character with PTSD.
- Descriptions of baby/child loss.
